RING
Ring – Recovering INdustrial jobs and export through developing Green digitalization
About and background
RING project aims to enhance the development and application of high technology and research as well as to support companies’ technological and educational capabilities by cooperating with universities and by increasing educational awareness.
South Karelia region and South-East Finland have suffered from poor employment rate and export development despite having strong traditions in the industrial sector. The COVID-19 pandemic made this even worse. To solve these issues, digital twins can be used to create smart services and new innovative business opportunities.
Digital twins can be understood as computer based virtual model or imaging. In the new, smart, phase digital twins allow the movement of data and information from actual real machine to the virtual model.
Objectives
RING project has the following main goals:
1 The technological and research goal is to develop a smart digital twin for the needs of local industrial companies.
2 The impact goal is to increase service exports with the help of digital tools which aims to compensate for the lost export revenues and jobs.
The service exports help to create new jobs in companies and thus enhance the livelihood in the local area. Similarly, the local South-Karelian companies are connected to cross regional development and international networks. The development in expertise and capabilities, research and education will make digitalization services more accessible, enhance the competitiveness of high technology industries and help to solve the crucial challenges of industrial companies.
